Citrix Presentation Server and antivirus software

Following the Article on the problems of Symantec Antivirus and Presentation Server 4.x , I found an interesting document that addresses Citrix in a more generic configuration of antivirus software on Presentation Server.

The document CTX114522 provides some guidelines for configuring antivirus software, to ensure good performance while minimizing the impact on safety. The document points out some important points:

  • Scan only write: effttua usually the antivirus scanning of all files read and write. In fact if we start from a clean system, the server can be infected only in writing.
  • Scan only on local disks: the disks are managed by network fileserver on which there is already an antivirus installed.
  • Exclude the pagefile from being scanned: page file contains only the memory pages (which is already being monitored in real time) and the number of accesses to this file is quite high.
  • Exclude the Spool folder of stampta to expedite the printing process.
  • Exclude the Citrix installation folder (\ Program Files \ Citrix) from the scan (or at least some of its subdirectories): in this way files are stored in the local host cache and Resource Manager are written pound continuously during use the server.
  • If you are using the ICA Pass-through, exclude the Cache folder of the Presentation Server Client bitmap and folder of the Presentation Server Client.
  • If the user accesses a published desktop, Citrix recommends removing the antivirus calls from the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Current Version \ Run to improve performance.

These small optimizations can significantly improve the performance of a server because you can reduce the antivirus sigificativo work for each user session.
