How safe is VMware's hypervisor?

The issue of safety is always of particular relevance and even the world of virtualization can not escape the comparison. In recent months has emphasized the potential of VMware virtualization as a hypervisor is a layer between physical hardware and machines virrtuali and therefore, working at this level, you can perform checks on the guest machine for viruses, Trojans, root kits and more. Precisely in this perspective, VMware has released APIs (called VMsafe) that allows third parties (such as McAfee ) to create software for this purpose.

During the conference "CanSecWest" in Vancouver, there are some conflicting ideas about the security of VMware hypervisor: Oded Horovitz, a researcher at VMware, collided with Mike Poor, senior security analyst for IntelGuardians, who said that his company , commissioned by the Department of Homeland Security Valur security of hypervisors, was able to complete successfully its attacks.

The news, though not confirmed, once again brings to the fore the issue of security. The introduction of a programming interface to access information hypervisor and guest systems could (VMsafe) could open the door to new vulnerabilities.
