Ubuntu on Citrix XenServer

Many companies are considering how Citrix XenServer virtualization platform for Linux-based virtual machines as the performance of paravirtualized kernels are higher. Despite XenServer has native support for major Linux distributions and non-commercial, Ubuntu is not in the list of templates.

Needless to say that Ubuntu has paravirtualized kernel on Xen to work (and therefore on XenServer), but its installation may not be as immediate.

And so Anil Madhavapeddy, Senior Architect in the Virtualization and Management Division of Citrix Division, has published an interesting blog post in which Citrix explains in detail how to install a system in a "hardware-assisted emulation" and then load the paravirtualized kernel and convert installation in paravirtualized mode.

The document refers to the installation of Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop, but Pius easily be adapted to other versions / editions of Ubuntu or any Linux distribution is not officially supported.
