VMware launches an open source VDI client

VMware has just announced the availability of VMware View Open Client, an open source VDI client ready for integration with the Linux distributions and thin clients.

The client is truly open source, distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1 (LGPL v 2.1), and sources are available through the service from Google .

With this move is another step in VMware's integration with the Linux world, but also simplifies integration with proprietary firmware of some manufacturers of thin clients. In particular in the press-release , VMware refers among others to the agreements with Chip PC and HP (which after the acquisition of Neoware has become the second largest vendor in the world of thin clients).
