Citrix released Feature Pack 2 for XenApp 5
The release of Feature Pack 2 was expected for some time now and this night was made available for download.
Feature Pack 2 is not just an update to fix some problems, but introduces a whole new set of some functions developed for XenApp XenDesktop. Feature Pack 2 is available for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008, although some features have not been developed for the latter.
But we see up close the most important novelties:
- VM Hosted Application: it will be possible to publish applications installed on the desktop virtual machines (XP, Vista, 7) by integrating XenServer 5.5 and Provisioning Server 5.1 SP1. Unfortunately to use this feature you must purchase licenses VECD.
- Power and Capacity Management (only for Windows Server 2003): An eye for GreenIT and with some "barbatrucco" you can change the behavior of the balancing of server users looking to consolidate on fewer servers, thus giving the chance to extinguish those not in use. This function can work with both physical and virtual servers, could allow large energy savings, for example at night or on weekends.
- HDX Flash Redirection (only for Windows Server 2003): with this new optimization you can watch movies in Flash provides excellent video quality and a limited impact on the network.
- Hot add / remove for USB drives (only for Windows Server 2003): finally you can use USB sticks and external hard drives dynamically without having to reopen the session!
- Support for Windows 7: From either side Online (ICA Client) or from side Offline (Streaming)
- Profile Management: it reaches version 2.1
- Provisioning Server: that is updated to version 5.1 SP1
- Service Monitoring: now able to recognize when multiple virtual machines on the same host exhibit the same problem
- Workflow Studio 2.0
The fact that some features have been developed only for Windows Server 2003 shows that the adoption of the new generation of servers in Redmond is proceeding very slowly, at least in Terminal Server environment / RDS.

Hello Francis
Thanks for your publications, returning always very useful for those who need a bit of support in Italian.
I have a problem and I try to explain my problem (I understand that is not the appropriate place)
I updated my server 2003 x64 Citrix to Feature Pack 2 and have had no major problems except the following:
- Since then I can not see the web portal Serizia licensing (I ran the update) as if the site no longer exists
- Initiation of SAPgui I see the following error message: "Usage: / sal ="
if I try to click OK and then try again to execute the SAPgui not see any error message
I could not find any note on
you have any suggestions?
Hello Dominic,
do so troubleshooting is a bit 'difficult. Maybe write me via the contact form on the site ....
Cmq, with regard to the License Server, the fastest thing to try is to copy the license file somewhere, remove and reinstall the License Server by checking you have the latest version. Usually works and is faster than doing the troubleshooting the problem.
For SAPgui I try to delete and recreate the publication of the application. Maybe a dscheck / Full apps could tell you something.
Hello,
Francis
@ Francesco

Thanks Francis for the advice!
do some testing and possibly write to you to your address.
