Release the Citrix XenApp 5 Feature Pack 2
The release of Feature Pack 2 had been expected for some time now and this night was made available for download.
The Feature Pack 2 is not just an update to fix some problems, but introduces a whole new set of functions developed for XenApp XenDesktop. The Feature Pack 2 is available for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008, although some of the features have not been developed for the latter.
But look closely at the most important novelties:
- VM Hosted Application: it will be possible to publish applications on the desktop virtual machines (XP, Vista, 7) by integrating XenServer 5.5 and Provisioning Server 5.1 SP1. Unfortunately, to take advantage of this feature requires the purchase of licenses VECD.
- Power and Capacity Management (only for Windows Server 2003): an eye for and with some GreenIT "barbatrucco" you can change the behavior of the balance of server users looking to consolidate onto fewer servers, thus giving the possibility to turn off those not in use. This function can work with both physical and virtual servers, could enable large energy savings, for example at night or on weekends.
- HDX Flash Redirection (only for Windows Server 2003): optimization using this new Flash movies you can watch an excellent video quality and providing a limited impact on the network.
- Hot add / remove for USB drives (only for Windows Server 2003): finally you can use USB sticks and external hard drives dynamically without having to re-open sessions!
- Support for Windows 7 is side-Online (ICA Client) and side-Online (Streaming)
- Profile Management: it reaches version 2.1
- Provisioning Server, that is updated to version 5.1 SP1
- Service Monitoring: now able to realize when multiple virtual machines on the same host exhibit the same problem
- Workflow Studio 2.0
The fact that some functions have been developed only for Windows Server 2003 shows that the adoption of the new generation of server systems of Redmond is proceeding very slowly, at least with Terminal Server / RDS.

Hello Francis,
Thanks to your work, always return very useful for those who need a little support in Italian.
I have a problem and try to expose my problem (I understand that it is not the right place)
I updated my server 2003 x64 citrix to Feature Pack 2 and have not had major problems except the following:
- Since then I can not display the web portal Serizia licensing (I performed the update) as if there were more site
- Start of SAPGUI I get the following error message: "Usage: / sal ="
if I try to click on ok and then try again to run the SAPGUI not see any error message
I could not find any notice about
you have any suggestions?
Hello Dominic,
do so troubleshooting is a bit 'difficult. Maybe write me via the contact form on the site ....
Anyway, with regard to the License Server, the fastest thing to try is to copy the license file somewhere, remove and reinstall the license server, check you have the latest version. Usually it works and is faster than doing troubleshooting the problem.
SAPGUI for me I would try to delete and re-published. Maybe even a dscheck / Full apps might tell you something.
Hello,
Francis
@ Francis

Thanks Francis for the advice!
I do some testing and possibly write to you to your own address.
