Citrix XenServer becomes open source
After joining Citrix in The Linux Foundation, comes a new ad highlighting the opening of the Fort Lauderdale open to the world: XenServer will soon be open source.
The product, already free, will be completely open source and therefore may be supplemented and further developed by anyone wishing to contribute code. Citrix XenCenter remains the property, the management tool.
From the strategic point of view, said Simon Crosby, this move is in line with the need to increase the market share and reach as many customers as possible. The product can also become the basis of the Xen cloud platform where the whole community can contribute and extended functionality.
