VMware announced the availability of View 4.0
If they have talked a lot and now it's reality: VMware announced today, in advance, the availability of View 4.0.
The new version of VMware's VDI platform marks a milestone. View 4.0 will be available for download from 19 November 2009 and the update will obviously be free to all users with maintenance.
The most important novelties of this release is certainly support for vSphere 4.0 (Update 1, also available from 19 November) and the introduction of the PC over IP protocol developed by Teradata.
The PCoIP is a protocol optimized for the user experience are able to remote from any kind of independent graphic: Aero, HD movies, Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight and any other application, including applications of graphics (View 4 supports graphics 32bit, ie 24 + 8 color transparency) and CAD, without the need for specific implementations. Moreover, as we said Andrea Siviero, Product Manager, Enterprise Desktop, VMware Marcketing Italy, the PCoIP is an adaptive protocol which can adjust the quality depending on available bandwidth and latency, we could work in conditions where RDP fails.
The announcement is accompanied by the availability of a range of Thin Client with support for the new protocol, both software (almost all thin clients dodati Window XPe and Linux) and hardware, such as the Wyse P20. Particularly curious announcement that Samsung will integrate in hardware on some models of TVs on PCoIP, thus opening interesting scenarios for the telecom companies (not only) for the short could provide virtual desktops to users connected in consumer broadband.
But the novelty of View 4 does not stop there. The View Manager introduces many other innovations, improving for example the multi-media (up to 4 monitors with different resolutions) or support for SmartCard via RDP (which continues to be supported as an alternative to PCoIP). In terms ARCHITETTU, with support for vSphere 4, increases scalability as it comes close to doubling of desktop virtual host. VMware has the largest installation in Italy at the European level on a LAN with about 8000 jobs based on View 3.
In terms of licensing, prices and conditions remain unchanged, except that now licenses come with vSphere 4 Enterprise Desktop Plus for unlimited now you can install an unlimited number of hosts vSphere 4 provided that the number of connected users not exceed the number of licenses acquired.
This release is particularly interesting not only because it further increases the competition Citrix VMware-in benefit of end-unteti who can enjoy more and more advanced functions, but also because it unlocks the upgrade to vSphere 4 that many users have been delayed due to ' incompatibility with the previous version of VMware View.
