VMware announced the availability of View 4.0
He has talked a lot and is now a reality: VMware today announced a preview, the availability of View 4.0.
The new version of VMware's VDI platform marks a milestone. View 4.0 will be available for download from 19 November 2009 and the update will obviously be free to all users with maintenance.
The most important novelties of this release is certainly support for vSphere 4.0 (Update 1, also available from November 19) and the introduction of the PC over IP protocol developed by Teradata.
The PCoIP is a protocol optimized for the user experience can remotely regardless of any graphics application: Aero, HD movies, Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight and any other application, including graphics applications (View 4 supports graphics 32bit, ie 24 + 8 color transparency) and CAD, without specific implementations. Moreover, as he explains Andrea Siviero, Product Manager, Enterprise Desktop Marcketing VMware Italy, the PCoIP is a protocol adaptive, able to adjust the quality depending on available bandwidth and latency, we can work in conditions where RDP fails.
The announcement is accompanied by the availability of a series of thin clients with support for the new protocol, both software (on most thin clients dodati Window XPe and Linux) and hardware, such as Wyse P20 . Particularly curious announcement that Samsung will integrate hardware on some models of TVs on PCoIP, thus opening interesting scenarios for the telecom companies (and not only) could soon provide virtual desktops for home users connected to broadband.
But the news of View 4 does not stop there. The View Manager introduces many other innovations, for example through improved support multi (up to 4 monitors with different resolutions) or support for SmartCard via RDP (which continues to be supported as an alternative to PCoIP). From the perspective of architecturally, with support for vSphere 4, increases scalability as it comes almost a doubling of desktop virtual host. VMware has the largest installation in Italy at the European level on a LAN with about 8,000 jobs based on View 3.
In terms of licensing, prices and conditions remain unchanged, except that now licenses come with 4 vSphere Enterprise Desktop Plus for unlimited: you can then install an unlimited number of hosts vSphere 4 provided that the number of connected users not exceed the number of licenses acquired.
This issue is particularly interesting not only because it further increases the competition VMware, Citrix, for the benefit of final unteti can enjoy more advanced functions, but also because it unlocks the upgrade to 4 vSphere that many users have had to delay because of ' incompatibility with the previous version of VMware View.
