Announces the availability of VMware View 4.0
If they have talked a lot and now is reality: VMware today announced a preview of the availability of View 4.0.
The new version of VMware VDI platform marks a major milestone. View 4.0 will be available for download from 19 November 2009 and the update will of course be free to all users having free maintenance.
The major novelty in this release are definitely support for vSphere 4.0 (update 1, also available from 19 November) and the introduction of the PC over IP protocol developed with Teradata.
The PCoIP protocol is optimized for user experience are able to remote from any type of graphic matter: Aero, high-definition movies, Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight, and any other application, including graphics applications (supports 4 View graphics 32bit, that is 24 + 8 color transparency) and CAD without the need for specific implementations. The ad is accompanied by the availability of a range of thin client with support for the new protocol, and software (on almost all thin clients dodati Window XPe and Linux) and hardware, such as Wyse P20 . Particularly curious the announcement that Samsung will integrate hardware on some TV models on PCoIP, thus opening interesting scenarios for the telecom companies (not only) may soon provide virtual desktops to users connected consumer broadband.
But the news of View 4 does not stop there. The View Manager adds several other new features, such as improving the multi-monitor support (up to 4 monitors with different resolutions), or support for SmartCards via RDP (which continues to be supported as an alternative to PCoIP). From the point of view, architecture, design, thanks to support for vSphere 4, increasing scalability as it comes almost to a doubling of host virtual desktops. VMware has the largest installation in Italy at the European level on a LAN with about 8000 jobs based on the View 3.
From the point of view of licensing, prices and conditions remain unchanged, except that now the licenses are provided with vSphere 4 Enterprise Plus for Desktop unlimited: you can then install an unlimited number of hosts vSphere 4 provided that the number of connected users not exceed the number of licenses acquired.
This release is particularly interesting not only because it further increases the competition VMware-Citrix unteti benefit of end users who can enjoy more and more advanced functions, but also because it unlocks the upgrade to vSphere 4, which many users have had to delay because of ' incompatibilities with the previous version of VMware View.
